Who is LBSA?

The Latinx Business Student Association (LBSA) is a non-profit organization at the University of California, Berkeley. It strives to promote success through diversity, develop its members both personally and professionally, and create a Familia whose relationships continue beyond Cal. As a Haas-sponsored organization, we leverage our capital to further Latinx representation on campus and ensure that our members have access to the resources they need to thrive.

Our History

In 1998, only three Latino students were admitted into UC Berkeley’s Walter A. Haas School of Business: Ulysses Romero, Eddie Martin, and George Rodriguez. These three dedicated individuals witnessed first-hand the low representation of Latinos in both academia and the corporate workforce. There was a great necessity for an organization that would serve as a resource for undergraduate Latino students seeking to achieve academic success and business aspirations—and it was from this need that Ulysses, Eddie, and George came together to create LBSA. The founders and the first-generation of LBSA worked together to excel in their courses, follow their passions, and advance through the corporate world. Today, we continue this tradition.

Two Decades Later

Through relentless work, passionate dedication, and a sense of urgency, LBSA has grown to over 150 active members, with over 40 events a year, 12 corporate sponsors, and over 220 Alumni. We promote diversity in the business community by hosting wide-scale events such as the Annual LBSA Spring Networking Mixer, the LBSA Alumni Program, and the Annual Alumni Panel. Our commitment to excellence has gained the admiration and respect of our peers. However, LBSA can always go higher. We will continue to improve our great organization through a shared commitment to education, community involvement, and dedication to professional exposure and social interaction. With each generation, our new members will take our organization to the next level. We will make LBSA the premier diverse business organization and continue the tradition set forth years ago. As the newly elected Board takes office, we await a successful and innovative year.
