Before you apply to a committee, get to know the Committee Leaders at our Meet the Board event at the beginning of every semester to learn about the responsibilities of each committee.   • The Academic Affairs Committee ensures our members have the tools and resources to feel supported as they navigate their academic classes. If you are looking for class recommendations, scheduling planning tips, or interested in joining a study session with our LBSA members, reach out to our Academic Affairs Committee. As a member of the Academics Committee, you help strengthen the Academics pillar of LBSA by helping to create and host semesterly Study Jams, attending weekly committee meetings, and assisting in the creation and maintenance of the LBSA High School Pipeline.

  • The Alumni Relations Committee is responsible for maintaining communication with alumni and professionals. Additionally, the committee will help LBSA members develop their networking skills to form and maintain relationships with the LBSA Alumni Network and professionals. Tasks revolve around planning alumni panels, outreach for industry-focused events, and, most importantly, increasing alumni engagement. These tasks tend to be completed by executing mixers and panels and successfully allocating information to other members interested in bringing in alumni to host workshops. Simultaneously, alumni board meetings are required to be present, and constant communication with executives of the alumni board is necessary.

  • The Community Affairs Committee is responsible for organizing a minimum of 3interactive community service events per semester that help the surrounding Berkeley community or community of choice. These events contribute to upholding LBSA’s Community Service pillar and strengthening the bonds among all members through service and familia. This committee will gain event planning skills, interpersonal skills, and accountability by hosting these events and maintaining coherent communication among all the committee members. Committee members will improve their leadership and management skills by planning service events and communicating with local non-profit organizations.

  • The Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing LBSA’s overall administrative responsibilities, including membership, mentorship, and the scholarship program, to strengthen the Familia pillar. Committee members will develop strategies to recruit and retain members and gain Excel skills by maintaining and updating the points within the LBSA Member Database. Specifically, committee members will gain event planning skills by hosting 2 to 3 committee socials per semester and events for the Big Little Program.

  • The External Affairs Committee is responsible for communicating with LBSA corporate sponsors while ensuring that all commitments made to sponsors are fulfilled. This committee also helps recruit new sponsors and organizes all sponsor workshops. The team will also help host and organize special events such as Networking Mixers and Case Competitions. Aside from exposure to companies across many industries, committee members will gain professional communication skills.

  • The Finance Committee manages incoming sponsors' donations and provides individual committee budgets. One of the key tasks of this committee is to evaluate committee fund requests to manage overall club funds effectively. To increase funds, members will execute at least 1 fundraising event per semester. The finance committee has two primary goals, namely to fundraise for LBSA and make financial resources more accessible for the utmost benefit of the general members. Members will have the opportunity to gain the skills to understand how to efficiently manage a budget and successfully support the execution of events.

  • The Information Technology Committee is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the website builder platform and domain host to create a modern and up-to-date website. Additionally, the Committee will ensure that the LBSA Test Bank is up-to-date and available to all LBSA members, as well as continuously checking the Test Bank Submission form to upload new approved materials. Workshops on various topics will also be held at the discretion of the Director.

  • The Internal Affairs committee works to support and connect with other spaces on campus, including other UC Berkeley Latinx organizations, UC student organizations, and university departments. Specifically, committee members in this position will aid in creating new relationships with different spaces to promote unique intersectionalities, career opportunities, and more. Current partnerships include HaU, LLS, and LPLS, and past events include the Women’s Empowerment event, Dia de los Muertos festivities, and the Corporate Law Panel. Finally, committee members will support the execution and facilitation of the Haas Bootcamp, which includes pairing mentors/mentees, facilitating workshops, and, in doing so, maintaining relationships with the Haas Admissions Team.

  • The Investment Committee is responsible for learning the basics of investment strategy. As an investment committee member, it is one’s responsibility to assist the VP with their projects for the semester. As an intern, you would participate in research in financial literacy and exposure to career opportunities. As a committee member, you will also be responsible for helping manage the Investment Fund. By analyzing a company’s annual and quarterly financial reports, committee members can learn how to approach and execute corporate investments.

  • The Marketing Committee is responsible for keeping all LBSA members and prospective members updated with LBSA announcements. The committee relays all relevant information to members through social media channels - such as Facebook and Instagram. Committee members will gain design and social media skills. The Marketing Committee must attend a one-hour weekly meeting to discuss responsibilities. These responsibilities include creating event graphics and distributing them across social media platforms to reach our members, leading engagement initiatives such as the Spotlighting of Latinx Leaders, collaborating with other committees to help execute their initiatives, and overall communication with all members through our Newsletter, Instagram, and more.

  • The Operations Committee is responsible for collaborating with the Senior VP of External Affairs and VP of Professional Development in coordinating LBSA professional events. The committee will handle the logistical aspects of event planning, including catering, room booking, and invite sending, and help manage the LBSA event budget.

  • The Professional Development Committee works on putting on 3 workshops per semester ranging from anything on How to Write a Resume and Cover Letter to How to Network. This committee is also responsible for collecting opportunities for both internship and full-time roles and sending them out weekly through a MailChimp newsletter. As a committee member, you should expect to learn and teach others professional development skills during the weekly committee meetings. The committee should also create and promote various professional resources for LBSA members. LBSA's goal is to show sponsors that members have the potential to develop strong professional careers due to the skills they possess.

  • The Public Relations Committee is responsible for strengthening the bonds among all members by balancing the professional and social aspects of LBSA. This committee will gain event planning skills by hosting a variety of social events throughout the semester, including, but not limited to, Banquets, General Member retreats, and Board Retreats, to enhance the internal culture of LBSA.

  • LBSA hosts many events during recruitment weeks like Meet the Board and Kickoff, which allow members to learn more about each board position, its committees, and its role in the organization as a whole. You can also read the above to see if anything piques your interest or revolves around something you’d like to learn more about!

  • To join a committee, you must first become a paid member. Our one-time membership fee is $40, and we have plans available for those who need financial assistance. Once that’s taken care of, you may apply to up to 2 committees per semester once applications are released. If you’re offered an interview, you’re one step closer to joining that committee!

  • Being a committee member allows you to get more involved in our organization's internal processes. By helping plan events, market events and services, and brainstorm new resources with your VP, it allows you to meet your fellow LBSAers and give back in a productive way!

  • Short answer: Yes! You can apply to up to 2 committees at a time, which gives you four opportunities to join 4 different committees in a single school year if you really want to switch it up. Committee applications are released at the beginning of every semester, and if you apply to 2 and get into 2, you’re more than welcome to be on 2 committees at the same time.

  • Our executive board members lead their committees! With the exception of the President, every Vice President and Director is responsible for running a committee.

  • Short answer: No, they are semester-long positions. We have two recruitment cycles, Fall and Spring. If you try a committee out and realize you may want to join a different one the following semester, you’re most definitely allowed to apply. But if your VP or Director gives you a return offer and you’d like to stay part of that committee for the remainder of the school year, that’s okay, too!
